MultiSport Tour
Day 1 - Sunday (Arrival)
Early arrivals meet us in Calistoga for a bike fitting and an optional self-guided 8 mile warm-up ride. Check into your Inn and join other guests for a customary wine and cheese greeting.
Your Inn for the next two nights will be:
The Silver Rose Inn Resort Winery in Calistoga
You’ll have time to visit the town of Calistoga, known as the “Hot Springs of the West”. A quaint western style town with the famous Sharpsteen Museum, Old Faithful Geyser, and the Ca’Toga Galleria D’Arte.
Calistoga is famous for its spa treatments and mud baths. Try a soothing massage at the Silver Rose Spa. It’s a great way to start out the trip. Let us know in advance so we can schedule your treatment.
Dining for the night will be at one of the many popular local restaurants in downtown Calistoga. After booking the tour, your tour planner will discuss the options which include Asian Fusion, American, and French Bistro among others.
Day 2 - Monday (Sip 'N Cycle)
Today we'll take an off-the-beaten-path look at the scenic upper Napa Valley. You'll travel along country lanes to small, family-owned wineries that really represent traditional winemaking. We've selected wineries that are large and small, historic and modern, "one man shows" and extraordinary "shrines to wine." Along the way you learn how wine is made and then tour a cellar to see how wine is made into champagne. All in all, you'll travel about 20 miles over mostly flat, easy terrain. A gourmet lunch will be prepared and served at one of the wineries. Dinner tonight will be on your own.
This night dining will be on your own. Our goal is to give you the freedom and flexibility to select which restaurant appeals to you most. Your concierge can provide you with menus of excellent restaurants in the area and your guide will make suggestions.
Day 3 - Tuesday (Kayak Adventure)
This day we will kayak the Russian River. The river is warm and clear with the occasional Class l rapids aimed at the novice or intermediate, and flows through a quiet and scenic landscape. We’ll see hawks and egrets and have plenty of opportunities for swim breaks.
We then van to the small, historic town of Occidental located in a narrow valley near the coast. We have plenty of time to explore the town as this is our home for the night. Dinner will be at a great Italian resturant in town.
Your Inn for the this night will be:
The Inn at Occidental
Day 4 - Wednesday (Wild Sonoma Coastal Hike)
Today is a great day for the nature lover in all of us. We begin the day with some excellent bird watching at the Dillon Beach marshlands. Expect to see blue herons, egrets, osprey, pelicans, sandpipers, etc. After bird watching we travel to Bodega Head to see migrating whales, the pounding surf on the rugged shores, mussels, goose neck barnacles, sea palms as well as great tide pooling. We then head north past the "Port o’ Bodega" made famous by the Hitchcock classic "The Birds". Our lunch today will be at Goat Rock state beach and following lunch we will take a stroll down the beach to observe Harbor Seals either lazing on the beach or hunting for fish in the brackish zone of the Pacific Ocean and Russian River.
Our tour ends today at about 2:30 pm. Time to get your belongings and your wine ready to ship home. We say our farewells, bid you good-bye and look forward to sharing good times again someday.
Pre or Post Trip Suggestions
San Francisco is the most popular place to spend an extra day or two before or after the trip. We suggest a stay in or around Union Square. It’s the center for the City with the major hotels and shopping.
What’s a trip to San Francisco without riding the Cable Cars? Take a quick ride over Nob Hill to North Beach. Once there you can explore by foot, walking up to Coit Tower, perusing Little Italy’s cafes and restaurants, and tantalizing your senses in Chinatown.
In keeping with our small Inns and B and B style, we recommend The Joie de Vivre Hotels @ 1 800-SF TRIPS for either a romantic small Inn or an elegant hotel in SF. We recommend Earl Tholander’s marvelous book, Walking Tours Of San Francisco. It’s a wonderful guide to use to explore the city on foot.
Other favorites include Carmel, Monterey Bay, Sausalito, the north coast town of Mendocino, all within 2 to 3 hours drive. Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and the Sierras are 4+ hours away and worth the drive. Please let us know if you wish additional information on any of these places.
