Bike and Kayak through Sonoma’s beautiful Alexander Valley
We come together at the Alexander Valley Campground at 10:00am. This allows time to finish your B and B breakfast or make the drive up from virtually anywhere in the Northern California region. We fit you with a Marin hybrid-style bike along with a helmet, bag, and comfortable gel-seat. Your leader goes over the “Rules of the Road” as well as how to operate the bike.
We’re off at about 10:15am. Your leader will explain the sights and local wine facts and history. We ride past the Russian River and down into the Alexander Valley. Passing Jim Town, we turn onto Red Winery Rd. Quiet, peaceful, virtually traffic free, this enchanting road will take us to Robert Young Winery, our first stop of the day, where we will have a chance to sample some of their fine wines. The support van is nearby for wine purchases, water or extra support.
Getting back on our bikes we continue riding while enjoying the views of the vineyards and surrounding hills. With a flat road, it is easy to enjoy the scenery and fresh air. Soon we continue to our next stop, deLorimier Winery. Here we will have a chance to try their wines and enjoy our picnic lunch; there is even time for a game of bocce ball!
Lunch with Getaway Adventures is quite an event. Shaded oaks provide a canopy with views of the valley. Enjoy a wine country lunch with dishes such as Mediterranean feta orzo salad, local organic salad greens, fresh baked bread, artisan cheeses, seasonal fruit, and dessert.
After lunch we climb into our kayaks for a leisurely paddle along this picturesque, slow-moving river that winds it’s way through wine country, filled with birds and wildlife. There will be a few opportunities for some excitement as we go through Class I rapids. We finish our trip at approximately 3:30pm at the campground. Here we bid you farewell and thank you for coming on tour with us!

We’ll be visiting in May and I’m really interested in this Pedal and Paddle tour. How much is it per person and can I reserve a date this far in advance? Thanks
Michelle
Michelle,
The tour price for the Pedal ‘N Paddle Tour is $175 per person (unless you have a group of 4 or more, in which case it is discounted). The price includes all equipment, professional tour guide, delicious Wine Country picnic lunch, unlimited bottled water, snacks, and a support van.
You can definitely make reservations this far in advance; the Pedal ‘N Paddle Tour is one of our most popular, so the earlier you book the better!
You can make a reservation at http://www.getawayadventures.com/reservations, or you can call our office at 800-499-BIKE.
Thanks so much for the inquiry and we hope to see you in May!

Do you only have hybrid bikes?
We only take hybrid bikes on the Pedal and Paddle tours, but you’re welcome to rent a sport bike if you’d like to do other cycling when you’re in the area.
My husband and I are going to be staying in Sonoma August 13-15, 2010. What is the weather usually like that time of year? I think my husband would really like this tour, but I’m worried about it being too hot.
Jill-
Sonoma can get pretty warm in mid-August, but there are some great areas that we tour that are a little cooler. Our Carneros tours are on the line between Sonoma & Napa, and there is a great breeze that comes off of the San Francisco Bay. We also do a great trip up in Healdsburg, which rides along the shaded Dry Creek Valley. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions! 1-800-499-BIKE
We had such a great time on Saturday! Tom and John were amazing, and Cassi is a great addition to your team. Thank you all for help getting us back in to visit! We are both very happy customers.
We had a great time. I enjoyed the camaraderie among the guests and the guides. I wouldn’t approve anything on the tour it was wonderful. Tom and John were awesome: knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and kind.
Both of our guides Tom and Mike were very knowledgeable, fun, down-to-earth guys. The route was beautiful the first stop wasn’t my favorite, but the other people seemed to enjoy it. The second stop was a must see. deLorimier. The host at the winery had a wealth of knowledge and was so much fun to be around. We will for sure go back! It was a little pricey but well worth the experience. What I loved most was deLorimier and the picnic lunch . My husband loved the kayaking. It was a perfect trip for a relaxing day of wine tasting and his love of adventure. We had such a good time on this tour. Thank you so much for a wonderful time. My husband and I would love to do more of your tours with your company again!
We just did the peddle and paddle with Tom and Mike in Sonoma. The trip was superb! Great guides, great food! Great scenery! We enjoyed the entire trip. Those guides are the best! Thanks!!!
